What is a femtocell?
Femtocells are low-power wireless access points that operate in licensed spectrum to connect standard mobile devices to a mobile operator’s network using residential DSL or cable broadband connections.
Femtocells deliver significantly improved coverage inside homes, small and large offices, and outdoor public spaces (metro hotspots and rural). This means a stronger signal and better voice quality, plus improved data download and upload speeds.
Femtocells also facilitate a new breed of mobile service that exploits the technology’s ability to detect presence, and connect and interact with existing networks.
